David Jay, is photographer who took photographs of women surviving breast cancer. The project came about when his friend was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 31. There is a documentary on The SCAR Project, Baring It All which premiered on won an Emmy Award in 2012. His photographs are extremely powerful and the women, despite what they have been through ooze confidence by their posture and facial expressions. His photographs highlight the strength of women by overcoming that and also still remaining feminine and beautiful through the battles they have faced. It also shows how the are not bothered about the media’s traditional beauty standards and feel confident despite many of their mastectomy.
