Ben Hopper

The media today pushes this ideology that women must shave with the constant flooding of hair removal products in magazines, supermarket shelves. It is now considered normal beauty standards to remove your body hair. However,  Ben Hopper, from London, is aiming to change this view. He has recently published some photographs of black and white portraits, which capture women exposing their armpit hair. Hopper, from his blog, adds : “Although armpit hair is a natural state, it has become a statement. Why is that? For almost a century we have been brainwashed by the beauty industry, encouraging hair removal.” I really liked the clever meaning behind the photographs. The photographs are really powerful in trying to resist the norms that the media has encouraged us to believe. The black and white images symbolize going back traditionally before people used to shave.
